Do you develope counter punching skills and tips by sparring?

Your coach should be showing you these before you begin sparring....for every offense I have learned I also learn its defence and a counter....

you can learn counters with a partner, but in the end youll never be able to properly use them until you can use them in full sparring. so you pratice the with partner and then you practice them in sparring.

by going throught it with a partner in slow motion first and then try it out in sparring.

I didnt practice it but i can do it pretty effectivly in sparring. I find that everyone makes some slight movement before they punch. Well everyone i have sparred with. I study my oppenent, just using the jab to see the signs of a punch, then use it to counter. One guy i sparred, for example, always pawed with his jab then would drop his hand a bit, before he threw a solid jab so when i saw his glove drop slightly i moved the the right and hit him with a right.

Just study people would be my idea, also work on making no movement before punching to avoid getting countered yourself

I havn't really put this into practice, but (dunno were i heard it) a good way to stop any attacks is to jab as your oppenent punches as it upsets their punches...

                  Thats all i got

learning to read your opponent is a huge advantage allowing you to time the opponents punc better. and know where the openings are on the guy you are sparring. every punch is an opening, every retraction is a closing. timing and positioning man.

T-97 toches on the small movements of the opponent. but be carefull as vets use them to **** with you. that's where intent comes in.

one practice - spar at a medium/slow pace. this helps you find opnening and guage timing so that you are not clueless when doing rougher sparring. and spar with many kinds of people.

these tips alone should give you months of training to refine these skills. and don't abondon them when you are proficient at them. go back occasionally and get used to them all over again. you WILL learn new stuff from that.
