    Foot movement while punching

When I jab I kinda make a small hop off the ground with my back foot and put my lead foot alot more forward. While being off the ground I jab.
When I throw a straight right I step forward with only my back foot. My left foot stays where it is.
When I throw a left hook both my feet leave the ground so that my whole body can make a turn at once.

Ofcourse I don't always throw 'em like that but when I'm opening with it I pretty much am. Lot's of trainers say different things on how to punch but I feel comfortable with this. Is it any good though? Would it be a bad habit if I get used to it?

About the jab: does it matter if I twist my elbow while jabbing or not?

PS: When I hit the heavybag it's always my pinky finger that suffers the most. Is that normal? Or does this mean I'm landing my hooks etc wrong? (I know hands aren't supposed to hurt but I just bought new gloves, my hands suffered in my old €20, 8oz ones...)

    Thanks in advance!

Hard to say but I prefer to plant my lead foot when I jab to turn the shot in harder.

I was also taught to turn the wrist over at the right time for maximum knuckle impact. In my opinion if you do not turn your elbow/wrist into the shot you will likely connect with your last finger and thumb. With your thumb facing up in the way kickboxers tend to jab.

You could see if there is any footage of Louis, Liston, Holmes and Monzon on Youtube as they jab very well. Especially Liston. Carl Williams also but he used to drop his right and could be countered by left hooks.

14oz would be useful on heavybag.

let me say something simple, you should not be doing little jumps.
situation 1: you have both feet on the floor; you get hit, you move a bit
situation 2: you are in mid-air/off-balance jumping; you get hit, you easily get knocked down or stumble

ps: for right straight you can move just back forward, and for left hook just twist your front foot 90 inwards to generate more momentum

Both of you are wrong. Stepping is always done with the front foot. If you are putting weight on your font foot, you are off balance, and you are losing power.
