    usa boxers:

open face or cheek guards? i've been using our gym's headgear with cheek guards for fights, but i'm looking to get my own within the next few weeks.

is the visibility really that much greater with open face?
do the cheek guards really offer that much more protection?

i haven't really noticed any visibility issues with the cheek protecters, but i know for international competitions you have to wear open face (we're only a few hours away from canada, and every once in awhile we'll get some kids from quebec at our shows, so there's always the possibility we'll be heading across the border.) holla.

it's a trade off, there is definetly a visibility issue, especially if you're fighting someone shorter than yourself. But at the same time I've taken some hard straight shots right on the bone under the eye in open face headgear that went straight in and hurt like ****. It's a decision you have to make for yourself.

i'm leaning towards cheek guards since i'm used to them. ain't no one shorter than me at 152.
