My gym is in Quito the capital of Ecuador. It is 2,900 m (about 9,400 ft) above sea level. It has three rings in okay condition. It is free, provided for by the government. Most kids do not have the money to pay. It is open Mon fri 4-8pm- The coaches are assigned by some governing organisation and move from gym to gym. They are good for basic instruction.
The cuban national boxing team come to train every year due to the altitude (as shown in my avatar pic). A few pros come in to train occasionally as well. About once a month other gyms visit for "sparring" which is more like real competition. The only tournaments they have that I know of is the national titles. It is a crap situation because each province (well my province does anyway) has an elite team of boxers, they receive free food and accom and just train, like the Cuban system under a Cuban coach. So almost like professional. But the rest are forgotten. I trained with them for I while until I injured my knee and it was educational to say the least because it was pretty much the same as the Cuban system.
For the average boxer though, they dont have any real way to build up an official record. The "sparring" sessions are not recorded. I have seen quite a few young kids with potential, unfortunately nothing is organised. I also have a hard time finding any decent sparring partners my weight, the coach is good for beginners but doesnt seem really interested unfortunately, probably feels he is wasting his time due to the lack of a real organised amateur competition for the boxers.
My gym has some of the best views of any though, overlooking the historical center of Quito
