Bulking up with no protein shakes or something

Hello guys I just want to ask if there is a way to bulk up without using protein shakes or bodybuilding drinks? Cause im kinda shy when going to a store to buy those type of drinks cause im a little bit on the skinny side. My size is actually good but I want to bulk up more to look better. hahahahahahahahaha

In boxing, bulking up is not a good thing. It can make you slow.

However, you shouldn't be shy on buying those kinda drinks, Everyone has to start at some time. If you still dont wanna buy those drinks, i would say just do it the old fashioned way.................... lift heavy weights do 8-10 rep range. And eat lean meats and eat plenty of protein(1 gram of protein per body weight).

I never started, and don't plan to. I prefer to do it all naturally, with lean meats and protein like you said.

To the original thread starter: it can be done naturally, but will take more time and effort on your part. However, if you just don't want to buy them because you're shy of going to the store, then that's just a dumbass reason.

Why do you not use whey protein drinks????? Just curious. When i was lifting weights I never did, cuz i was getting enough protein thru my nutrition. Now that im in boxing, i only eat like 100 grams of protein if that so i still need like 35 grams of protein. So i drink a all natural whey protein drink, but only when i do my heavy bag workouts.

Just a personal preference. I don't have anything against people that do, but I just like to keep things completely natural (I've never used any supplements or steroids to help with my training).

What? dont be shy about some thing like that. You can bulk op by eating foods high in protein, such as meats, legumes, eggs and poultry. There are many other foods rich in protein if you do some research. Dont get too bulked up or it will affect your boxing performance. I wouldnt even say "bulked up". Just "filled in" and strong.

                  few quick notes

a lot of supplements have tested dirty recently, even the xyience that the ufc pushes. probably not a bad idea to stay away from them.

the guys you see in the ads for supplements are usually on the juice anyways.

i think bodybuilder's advice of how much protein to get in order to pack on muscle is rather exaggerated (1g per pound of bodyweight); I get nauseous after 100~110 grams in a day. There was an article on yahoo earlier this year that referenced a study that agreed with this.

Another recent study showed that chocolate milk post workout is almost the ideal food for building & repairing muscle.

regardless of the protein shakes, you're not going to pack on a lot of weight unless you eat a lot.

Eating natural foods is how a lot of old timers did it and they had better looking physiques than a lot of the chemically enhanced guys you see these days.

as far as exercise goes, if you have a hard time gaining weight, often the key is to work out less - but more intensely; work with higher weight not with higher volume.

keep the exercises basic, but big movements (not isolated joints):
                  squats, deadlifts, overhead press, pullups/chinups
keep the number of reps medium to low.

believe it or not, you can even look pretty buff just doing bodyweight exercises (different pushups, bodyweight squats, pullups, etc).

supplements are what they are. supplements. they are in no means meal replacements or replacement of anything. they are in addition to. i have a hard time eating the amount of protein as well because i dont have that big of an appetite but you just have to suck it up and do what you have to do. 35g of protein is pretty easy to come by. a serving of cottage cheese 1/2 cup, serving of milk 8oz, 2-3 slices of whole grain wheat bread and your set. dont be shy to buy the protein powders. if you are then just order it from bodybuilding.com. ive used natural whey protein powder for a long time and its great stuff. but remember its a supplement not a replacement.
