Looking at the majority of first fights, it almost always looks like a slugfest. I have a upcoming fight and don't want to have a "slugfest" or "brawl" but rather a boxing match. Just doesn't feel like you're putting everything you learned into the ring, but rather just a show of who can throw the quickest 1-2's. The plan is to stick the jab and move, but in a 1 minute round... conditioning doesn't play a big role. Anyone have similar thoughts or feel the same?

trust me, if you keep your hands and elbows up and in tight, stay calm, and throw straight, accurate punches you will most likely win your first fight

i see where your getting at. its mostly due to inexperience in the ring. not enough sparring. training goes out there door sometimes when you dont have a lot of sparring experience. well amateur matches are about points as well but id still rather not fight like that. you see a lot of people in first fights flinch a lot rather then use lateral slips or bobs or blocking and counter punching and such but thats pretty advanced and again it just shows the experience. put in your sparring time in the gym and itll pay off a lot in the match. fight the style you want to fight in every sparring session and once it becomes second nature you wont have to worry about throwing how you want to fight out the window when you step into the ring. train hard and post up your fight if you can. would love to see it. good luck

I don't care how long you have been training, or how much sparring / street fighting you have done.
You're first fight, infront of a real live crowd, the minute you go in that ring and get hit, you are gonna forget all about technique and it's going to be a brawl.
You can go in with the mindset of using your jab and moving and this that and the third, but majority of the time for your first fight or three, instincts kick in and you're gonna slug.

Hahaha, no way. Depends on how mentally strong you are. No disrespect but normally you see the people who get into slugfests arent exactly mentally strong. The ones who just say **** technique and start throwing bows after getting hit once. lol
90% of amatuer fights are slugfests so dont worry about that. Top 10% normally have inflated number of amatuer fights, end up in the olympics and are top pro prospects.
