Neck bridge- To do or not to do?

Professional fighters, including boxers, have been using the exercise to strengthen and/or build their neck muscles for centuries, yet physiotherapists (like AthleanX) seem to advise against. I'd like to know your take on this? If you agree with the physios what alternate exercises would you recommend that are equally effective but safer?

Some boxers swear by those exercises, including Mayweather.

I do those to warm up but I do a side to side roll not on top of my head forward and back. I would only do that if I was training for wrestling. I use a neck weight brace with 20 or 40 pounds to add muscle. 20 for front and sides 40 for back.

Mike Tyson got a huge neck from doing them. Jack Dempsey also used to neck bridge.

if you're young and healthy I think they are great for any combat sport, just build up your strength and flexibility slowly over time. Don't overdo it at first.

I don't recommend them for old guys like myself. The neck weight is a good alternative. It's good to have a strong neck. It's better to have a strong neck AND tuck your chin when you fight.

Just use a resistance band on your head to mimick the same thing. Neck Bridges arent a novice movement imo.
