I don't want to gain the reputation of being a bully or a thug in the ring. How hard should someone go in sparring? I want to work on my speed and throwing combination's but I don't want to hurt my sparring partners.

How hard should you go in sparring?

You will know... Don't worry.. The day you take anyone easy.. Is when you will pay.
Work on what you need to do. If someone is bullying you, then do what you must. Sparring is about learning and capitalizing on your flaws.. It's not a pro fight.

Thanks for the answer. I've been sparring for a while, but before I was the guy getting beat up in the ring. Now I'm being asked to work with the new guys and I don't want to pound them out the same way I was pounded out. I didn't mind, I think it's part of the sport, but if any of these guys are not in that mindset, I don't want to turn them off from the sport or hurt them and what not.

If they're new then don't go to hard.. Throw the jab and see how they respond.. I sparred a couple of times already and always start with a jab to see how they react to it.. Some get mad... Others.. Just go along.. If you're cool with some people.. (Which you should do) and spar with them.. You can get the best sparring you can ask for. Boxing is about respect, and you're not gonna get any if you're pounding on people in sparring, but in a new kids case.. The new kids always want to prove something.. Just be you. Don't go hard or easy.. Fight the way you fight.

i generally let the person who im sparring with determine how hard, if they hit you hard hit them with the same intensity back, thats way it should tend to work.

I agree with Undefeated - just start working and see how it goes. If they are slow or getting worked chill out and throw them some pointers. I spar with someone that's better than I am so I can learn and don't mind when they go hard. It makes me not wanna get hit so I keep my hands up and use footwork. Although, if someone is trying to go hard with me I give it right back.

what a question lol, if your sparring with a friend probably both of you should know better than hiting each other really hard..and i think that it is in sparring that we learn most so if you don't hit youll get hit
