What do professional boxers do between fights??

Hi guys, I think that this section of boxingscene is one of the sections where there are the most guys who already boxed in their lives. I haven't....

Anybody can explain me something?? What do boxers do between two fights. I know that for 2-3 weeks, a lot of boxers just go on vacations. But after that, if there's no bout scheduled, what do they do? Do they still go to the gym to train??

I have two examples, for a boxer like Guzman who boxed once a year, what is he doing after his only fight?? And how a boxer like Hatton can balloon up to 175 pounds after a fight?? Is he training between two fights??

    Thanks for your help guys!

It depends on the fighter and what level they are on I guess. The pro's in our gym still have jobs like normal people when they're not training for a fight. Or they're in college. But if you're on the level like Manny and Floyd where you make enough so you don't need another job I'm guessing vacations, family time, and stay in the gym I don't know.

Most pro's will continue to train and keep themselfs in shape, mostly a few days a week just to maintain. Come time for a fight they go into training camps where they train anywhere between 4-7 times a week.

I'm guessing they chill till the training camp for their next fight starts. One thing that I have wondered about and I might aswell ask it here... How can a fighter who maybe only fights 1 or 2 times a year have afford to live? I'll also take Joan Guzman for example, he fights once a year so how can he afford to live between fights? Does he work a job on the side or? I can understand fighters like Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao can afford to live even though they do not fight so often because they earn millions of dollars each fight... But shurely a fighter like Joan Guzman doesn't make anywehere near as much money...

Making 5 figures or more each fight is quite a bit of money and more then enough to live off. I'd assume Guzman makes a good 30k+ a fight, specially if he is a headliner he is looking at even more. You don't have to make millions to be set for a year.

I don't think Hatton trains in between fights when he goes up to 175 .Only reason I know this is because if you binge drink and train with enough intensity on that day the majority of the weight still stays off .Hatton must go on it for days to get that big with no exercise .Just the sweet science what I know from experience .I can keep a 10 pack of beer off with a 20 minute circuit easy .Hatton could probably walk around 150 154 with a 20 minute fast run on binge days or a hard conditioning circuit with enough intensity , burpees , jumprope , bags , shadowboxing etc .

A world class fighter would always stay in shape.

Spend time with his family, give his body time to recover, doing other business ventures, and do other things people don't get to see.

Another thing is I read about Hatton is he can lose up to 1 stone a week in a fitness magazine . 2 pounds a day that is roughly that's the same what I can do .I know Hatton can't be trainining infact because the other week mate I had a 10 pack of fosters Friday and Saturday for 2 weekends in a row .Total 40 and I still managed to lose 16 pounds and get down to 8 percent bodyfat .The weights easy man I am a bit worried that i'm taking a bit too much out myself tho but my conditioning and staminas going up .I'm up to 20 rounds hiit a day now man easy .Crunches dumbells grippers and neck strength on top somedays

It depends on the person and what level of fighter you are. Lower level boxers are always in the gym, working out and may have a hole in the wall job as a dish washer... If they are still young 18yrs or so, they may go to school unless they are a poorer boxer who needs to sweep the gym floor to pay for their gym membership.

Hatton for instance does jack ****. He eats fried foods and drinks beer all day, doesn't look after himself or his body. Like a fat ****. Isn't that what Brits call lazy fat ass people?

Guzman does jack ****. He hardly works out, he probably spends most his time on Miami beach trying to play gangsta and ****in mad hoes. Wasting his money away. He honestly doesn't do jack **** though, he stays in pretty good shape somehow but he isn't training. He is always cut but hardly works out.

Oscar Dela Hoya would eat well but didn't train much. He spent most of his time on business adventures. Running golden boy promotions.

Floyd always works out. It's apart of his daily routine. Besides that he parties sometimes, hangs with the family. Invests in that dead end of a record label. lol

Hozumi Hasegawa is a family oriented guy. He spends most of his time with his wife and kids out in the countryside of Kobe Japan. He spends some time at the gym too, but doesn't do anything too intense between fights.

Those are just some examples of the ones I know for sure.
