I went from 138 lbs to 154 at the same age within a year. And yes used protein shakes, after hard workouts because was running lean on fat to begin with and to avoid catabolic states. 10 mins or so after each workout. But more so it was about natural growth and a good, well-balanced diet to fuel the workouts as it went.
If you really want to gain weight then get yourself educated on healthy eating, with a focus on upping your carbs and good fats. Know how many calories you're putting in, what your burning daily, and be sure to not ever be at a deficit.

Nothing wrong at all with taking a protein shake after a work out. It's not like its going to make your body gain muscle mass quickly. My advice is if you do work out hard enough then YES have a shake no longer then 30 mins after your work out. You want to keep your muscle and help recovery so you can get back into the gym.
I ran track(100m, 440 relay, mile relay, and long jump) at your age and training everyday I need those shakes to help my legs with recovery.
As for bulking up, you're pretty young to be bulking up, your body is still in its growing stages so I would hold off.
