    help: jab technique?

SO here I am, 1 month and a half training boxing. I really have a great time with it (even after some swollen lips from light sparring which I just started ehehe).

And since I've always liked to read, I got a book (someone here in this forum mentioned it: championship boxing) and it got me thinking on the jab.

    How should I jab:

    1) Vertical fist: so I hit with 3 kuckles, in theory protecting my fist.

    2) Horizontal fist (palm down), turning my hand as it leave the guard then turning again as it snaps back to guard.

    What are your opinions?

Proper Boxing technique is the latter.

I use the former sometimes because it is what I learned from my martial arts. Can't judge the distance or even see it closing in with a vertical fist. Horizontal fist, you can see it turning, which helps you judge distance. If you know how to do that stuff of course.

I hit with the 3 fingers. in dempseys book he explains it as vertical fist for the head horizontal for the body like if you go up to a wall and support yourself with your fist on the 3 fingers at eye level vertical is better then horizontal but at body level horizontal is better then virtical.

The correct way to jab is horizontal fist.
