Is there a way you can see whats the lowest you can weigh?

im 5'11, 20yrs old, walk around weight around 155-158lb and have 6 fights. my last 5 fights ive weighed from 148-152. my first fight when i was 17, i weighed 145. but after competing in a few tournaments, ive noticed that guys in the 152lb open division are alot bigger than i am. Also around the gym, i notice other fighters bigger and have a much wider frame than i do and weigh less than me. I wanna move down to the 141lb weight class.is there a way i can determine if id even be able to go that low, since i never weighed that much before? also if possible, any tips on cutting weight? also i wanna compete in 2012 golden gloves in feb. would it be possible to be at 141 by then?appreciate the help in advance!

If you are serious about continuing on I would recommend that you add some lean muscle to your body and fight in the 152 weight class. You are still growing in strength and power, eventually you would have no choice but to fight at 152 as your frame fills out. Thats alot of weight to be dropping for every tournament to try and compete at the 141 mark. Make 152 and fight physically strong instead of depleated as most are making weight. Be sure to do your neck exercises. And remember that being bigger or stronger does not win you fights, skill will win a fight........Rockin'

      FIGHTING_FLIP,

In order to see how low you "can" drop, I would suggest determining your body fat percentage and going from there. As the previous poster said, bigger and stronger doesn't mean you will win the fight, BUT, being in top physical conditioning will! Best of luck and if you have further questions on loosing/gaining weight, please check out my thread labeled "Natural Pursuit", I am a Personal Trainer and Nutritional Consultant helping any and every athlete achieve and surpass their goals!

Best of luck in your endeavors!

          FIGHTING_FLIP,

If you weigh 150 lbs and are at say 15% body fat then that equates to 22.5 lbs of fat you currently carry on your frame. As you are a boxer and need to be in top conditioning while having the highest energy output possible, you could loose fat and get into the 8-10% body fat percentages and be in even better conditioning than previously. This would enhance your work output significantly and could mean the difference between a win and a lose.

If you are serious about dropping weight but not loosing any strength, I suggest you take some time to get a specific diet regimen that will help you do so! Of course I am going to "plug" myself in to this conversation by saying I would love to help get you in the best condition of your life for your next fight! If you are interested go to my website at and go under personal training and nutritional consulting and follow the directions from there! If you would like to do your diet yourself though, I would HIGHLY suggest post-poning your next fight until you can get to your desired weight and hold there for a little to allow your body to adapt!

          Best of luck!
