    tactics defence help

    Hi,

I have been boxing for about 7months now. When sparring with a friend of mine at another gym he used an annoying tactic against. He held out his left hand (jab) just in front of me. It blocks my view and makes it hard for me to hit him. I can obviously move away but its difficult to get near enough to hit him.

What can i do? is there any "counter" to this or do i just try circle him (which doesn't always work"

    Thanks in advance

Parry it downwards or across his body then hit.

ah ok, i like that idea, quick parry down then follow up with a hit. Im guessing parry with the right hand then follow with a punch using the right?

Whatever works for you, parry with the right for definite if your putting it across his body. When you parry make sure you're parrying the arm to your left so his arm goes across his chest and prevents him from throwing with the other hand.

Another thing you can try is a right hand body shot, if his left hand is up then he's not protecting his ribs with it and that area shouldn't be obstructed from your vision. Fire a quick and sore bodyshot into him that'll make him change up.

Better if you parry across, parry down and he'll lift his arm straight back up or it could possibly hit you low.

I don't think he's referring to a punch, just sort of a pawing jab that hangs out and is just a range finder. Sure I got a warning in a contest for doing that once anyway. But, yeah parry across is more effective.

Parry it to the side. The obvious way is to push it to your left, with your right glove, then hook with your left to his chin or body.
Less obvious, but pretty deceptive, is to parry it to your right with your left glove. Now the obvious thought here is that that move opens you up to his right hand, which is probably what he is hoping for. So you use that against him. Give him the opening he is looking for, but when you parry with your left hand, get your left shoulder in front of your chin. Roll with his right hand and counter with your right.
Or parry his left downward with your left and shoot your right hand over the top. Really turn on your right hand and you'll get under the right he'll be throwing at you. You should get your's off first, since you know what you are going to do and he is reacting.

Good advice, I'll give the right hand opening a shot a go myself. Sounds quite tricky to pull off though.

Sweet, thanks for the multiple options. I'd rather have a small arsenal of attacks so my friend wont anticipate my response.
