    Boxer's Fracture

Injured my hand sparring this evening, haven't had it diagnosed by a doctor, but looking at pictures and descriptions online i'm 99% sure it's a boxers fracture (fractured 5th Metacarpal).

I was wondering if anyone else has done this and what the recovery time was like, I've looked online and it says about 6-8 weeks. However does this mean it wont be fully healed until then or I wont be able to do any bag or sparring work until then? It also isn't 'too' bad as I have some movement in it, but it's still painful and swollen up pretty big.

2 months sounds about right. Don't make assumptions and go get xrays if you got a fracture. My doctor had to reset my bones and even then, from me not letting it heal properly they slipped a bit and I have a small knot on my hand.

Dont hit the bag with that hand then practice with the other till the other is healed. Ice the injury if it still hurts after a week or so maybe go to the doctor get the x ray.

I broke my right metacarpal bone about 2 years ago after I hooked a guy in the face. I didn't think nothing of it at first I just thought usual knuckles getting swollen and all but when that went down I noticed that that bump was still there and I had trouble moving it. The bone didn't hurt it was just hard to make a fist. After 2-3 weeks I decided to have it checked out and it broke and healed into place. I got surgery went to physio and after being really delicate with it I got into another fight and the bone just got lowered lol. I'll post pics if you want.

2 months should be enough, don't stop training, use the other hand with the punching bag, and obviously you can also do some sit ups and other cardio training.

Fractured my right hand during a bout in the first round and won the fight, after few months of preparing for another bout, injured my shoulder during training but still fought with the injury (it was a national bout). Again in the first round I missed a left hook, re-injuring my shoulder and had to continue the fight with one hand. Unfortunately this time I lost by only one point :/.

It is very important to rest when you have injuries and check with a physio.
