What makes a fighter a good finisher? In other words, what makes him good at finishing off an opponent? What does a fighter need to be a good finisher? Foot speed?

To go into more detail as I always do, a good finisher has killer instinct. His gut feelings will tell him when his opponent is going to get knocked out. You can "sense" it in a way as a desperation from the other person. A good finisher, if he's consistent, will naturally hit the places that's most damaging. If the other person is a healthy fighter, the best way to hit him is at the chin, sides of the forehead, liver shots and all around diaphragm to destroy his stamina in the process of a knockout. More damaged his stamina is, the less likelihood of him coming back from a dire situation.
Anyway, to make it short, a good finisher is someone who is consistent at being effective at the weak spot of the opponent.

Also depending on the fighter, you'll have better chances of being fluid in most fighting styles. As Bruce Lee once said: "Be water, my friend". To be the best, you need to adapt to every fighting style. Meaning you are not stuck in one fighting style either.
An aggressive fighter will be less effective against a person who's punches are consistently getting connected to the head. And also being stopped from charging in by timing of the jab.
A counter puncher will be less effective against someone who's consistently throwing combinations and dodging while coming in.
A slugger.... someone who's techniques can overcome his aggression. And boxing skills in general.
A boxer is less effective against someone who's a knockout artist. Generally speaking about a boxer who has no power.
And so on and so forth.
All in all, if your skills are like Mayweather and the power of Pacquiao, you'll have a champion.
Mayweather makes proper adjustment to fight properly against the other person; a mindful fighter who analyses his opponent is a dangerous opponent.
Pacquiao (younger version back in the 2002-2010) was consistently punching and putting his power behind every punch. So he was putting his heart into every fight and to be motivated to go higher in the hierarchy of greatness. And the inspiration to be the best he can be, has made him an icon in his own country.
One day, somewhere in an age where competition is stiff, one will know what I'm getting at and become the perfect balance between the two. And that will be my son. He ain't born yet but once he is, he'll get my genes and knowledge, without the eye injury to be one of the best boxers to come.

ability to sense when your opponent is hurt, ability to cut off the ring, ability to pick and place your punches, timing, speed, accuracy, power and imo most importantly composure.
