    Video of sparring

This is a video of me sparring today, i'm in the black vest with blue headguard. Ive been boxing just over a year, but recently just stepped up my game a little as i have my first bout on the 13th of july. Looking forward to it!

Any advice or suggestions are welcome.

    Hope you enjoy the video

I see one move over & over again. A jab a weak right hand then a step over to your right to avoid. You do it every time you jab.
You have no defense! You only lean back on your right foot and put your gloves up. What happens when your opponent steps in and stays in? You'll have all your weight on your backside and that's where your going to wind up! You don't slip or parry and never counter punch! No left hooks to the body or head. No hooks that followed your right hand either.
I am not trying to hurt your feelings but your not ready to fight unless your matched accordingly. A novice division fighter could go in against a seasoned gym member who is actually an "open class" level fighter. I hope your trainer has you matched properly.
When your close to competition your sparring needs a bit more aggression than the tag your it you were displaying. You need to get in a ring also.

    For fight night;
    Be First all night long!
Use a double jab and straight right hand!
Move in out and don't let your opponent be first!

That's it..............it's all your capable of! Go get em! good luck! Ray.

No i dont take offense ray not at all, i did post for some tips suggestions etc like you have. I come back from having 6 week off a couple of weeks ago from breaking my nose, i did get this recording for my viewing because i was getting caught with shots and i wanted to know why and how i could avoid it. As you say no slipping or ducking, all taken in when i watched it myself. You think your doing something and your not! No counters, which are crucial i know.

I have participated in thousands of USA/ABF (amateur federation from the 70s through the 90's) if your trainer is respected and can match you accordingly, meaning against va young man with equal abilities for now and age then go scrap it out!
However not everyone knows how to pre match a young novice
fighter who only knows a few basic techniques and hasn't perfected any of them.
That's why my advice is to be first with punches to be able to put your opponent on defense.
I could fill the pages and write for hours but you won't learn that way boxing must be taught in person.
If you came to me the way you are now my best guess would have you in a competition in about a year! That's what I see in the video but the video blocks me from seeing whats in your eyes and in your heart. Lazy jabs and poor movement can all be fixed when the heart is willing and the eyes are eager!
As I said be first.......those words are heard by the greatest fighters ever and that short statement is the main truth in boxing! Being First!

Again ray your comments are apreciated. The guy who i will be fighting will have similar experience as i have and had no fights. I am matched fairly. The lad who i sparred on the video has more experience than me, and has had a few fights too.

The mats are ok to be honest they provide a little resistance especially when doing sprints and skipping. Thank you

Good luck for your fight . As Ray said always try to be first to throw a punch. Keep your right hand stuck to your chin if you do not throw the right obviously. If you are going to fight a southpaw fighter, keep your left foot outside of his so you can throw the left hook and right hand much better.

Try to throw your left jab more powerful even during sparring, as you will end up throwing it lazy during the fight.

Focus more on the body so your opponent will slow down a little bit. The body is important as the head.

I thought u did pretty good considering the height and reach disadvantage. He looked a lot taller?
By the way, does moving on the mats slow you down? You'll prob be quicker on ur feet in the ring right?
                  Gd luck
