    Boxing gloves weight difference

I always use my Winning 18 oz gloves during sparring.
    I way about 80kg/ 176 lbs.

And I don't know if it is because of the weight of my gloves but I feel like my punches are just super slow, my technique also suffers due to the fact that my arms just don't snap as they would during shadow boxing, without gloves.

In contrast, the dudes in my gym always wear 12 oz gloves.... even the 115 kg / 250 lbs guy, I sometimes spar with uses ****ing 14 or 12 oz gloves...

I feel like their punches look and feel a lot faster than my punches, even tho quite a few are sluggers.

So my question is, does the weight difference of the gloves make such a big difference?

And is there a way to get used to punching faster with 18oz / heavy gloves?
( I have been using them for almost a year now, but still feel uncomfortable with them)

Wtf? Why are you sparring dudes wearing gloves less than 16 oz?

    That's not right

I don't feel that the size of the gloves makes much of a difference in the long term. When I wear my usual 14 oz gloves for a workout then take them off I am a lot faster but it only lasts temporarily. Speed increases from just working hard and trying to work past your limit every workout.

No just wear head gear and perhaps vaseline. Sparring with anything above 12 oz is pointless because in an amateur fight you are going to be wearing 10-12 oz depending on your weight. By always using big gloves when sparring it provides a false sense of security, messes up your defense, and throws your timing off.

You're dam right glove weight makes a big difference.

When I wore heavier gloves in sparring, i used to keep a loose fist because it seemed to make me faster. And in a fight with lighter gloves, i kept a tight fist.

Make sure you don't get in a bad habit of telegraphing your punches because you are trying to load up on your shots with the heavy gloves.

175 & up in weight I prefer 16 to 18oz depending on the sessions. If you have two guys that know and respect one another glove size and head gear don't mean anything. If their getting ready for a fight then I prefer the 16oz.

160lbs and down wear 14oz and I used Shevelan Gloves back in the 70's & 80's
they were hand made with a lot of wrist protection and a nicely tucked thumb.
Al Shevelan made a very nice product and was very fare with his prices. He also made a really nice belt/cup protector, lightweight but strong.
I used Everlast & some Tuf-Wear products too.

Through the 60's to the late 80's 10oz Everlast were used across the USA for amateur fight gloves along with the majority of pro shows for the prelim fighters.
I liked to stay at least 2 to 4 oz above fight gloves in the gym.
ps; In my gym you had a few times to open your hand with larger gloves to keep normal circulation but constantly leaving them open was not tolerated.

My personal preference were 5 & 6 oz Ben Bow Gloves Mex. great wrist protection and a nicely tucked thumb that felt perfect. A bit hard for todays likes but I felt great in them!

Anyone telling you that weight of glove doesnt matter has no business giving you advice ive fought with 4oz ( karate gloves ) 8oz and even 6oz (uncles 60's gloves) and use 16 oz daily on HB . The slightest change in physics will effect speed ,thats why swimmers shave EVERY hair on them ,becase the SLIGHT ounce /miniscule weight will effect velocity no matter what . The heavier you are the less noticable it SHOULD be .......my advice is to ignore some old school b.s and work your way to 7 pound dumbells or any weight you can COMFORTABLY shadow box with as long as weight GRADUALLY increases ...i do 10 pounders and work my way down dropping 2 pounds which i go from 10/8/6 and so on to get my arms used to feeling very heavy weight so any glove will feel MUCH lighter !

No prob ...it usually does ,unlike some ppl on here i actually know what im talking about bc ive actually fought and im not delusional and been training for practically 3 decades in some boxing ,mostly MMA/Martial arts and weight lifting among other strength sports few PPL on here can claim that!

P.S always use bigger gloves hitting gheavy bag or sparring ....preferably 16 oz .Invest in QUALITY , a good pair goes a long way , i use "Hayabusa "brand which can be expensive mine are white and were around 130 $ i got 5 years ago and wjust started busting now ,if you are not a power puncher they will last longer , GREAT gloves make a big difference in punching accurate and less likely to hurt your hand .
