Solution to food scarcity is to open more grocery stores and fast-food restaurants.

        Great idea!

Maybe you, me, and Zaroku could open up a sports bar in Nigeria together. I can be bartender on weeknights.

our population isn't shrinking, yet anyway. our growth rate is shrinking, which in my mind anyway is okay. quality of life is a lot more important to me than power. also, population alone doesn't increase a country's power, if it did, India would be the second most powerful country on the planet.

India and china have let their populations get out of control (of which they are both aware), at some point that affects everyone, as we are all competing for the same limited resources.

we need to get the earth's increasing population under control. I think your following post, the one about cattle is a good illustration. If the population of the world were 2 billion instead of 8 billion, we would consume fewer cows, burn fewer fossil fuels, pollute less air and water (require less water)

^^ this can't go on forever, no?

We eat some but mostly Chicken. I'd like to, after I retire, buy some land with a water well, raise some chickens and have a huge garden.

then I imagine how much work and time that would require and I realize I'm not really going to do that in my old age.

Your population isn't shrinking because immigration is bolstering it. That's what America has over most other countries, it is the most attractive country for economic immigrants. So you won't have to worry about population shrinking.

You can raise layer chickens. Those are easy to tend to even broiler chickens are easy to tend to and they are mature in 6 weeks.

When I was a kid we had some chickens and few ducks too. Living in an urban neighborhood, I'm guessing our neighbors were none too pleased.

They were easy though, as I remember it, but you still have to be there to make sure there's fresh water and food. You can't just get in the car and be gone for a week.
