Tunney didn't have many HW fights.

Resume at HW is too important.

I don't rank him that high on the HW list.

All-time p4p list is one thing, but HW rankings are another.

I agree, these people overrate the old fighters and underrate the modern champions, Lennox Lewis is top 10 for sure and I'm not saying this on a fan point of view, Lennox beat everyone that was around his era...

Not dissing Lewis, for he floats in and out my Top 10 as does Tyson; but he was also flattened twice to subpar heavies. Now, while it is true that he came back an beat both, the fact that he was stopped cold proves that he had lapses in concentration and was therefore inconsistant as a champion....this has to be considered a big drawback. Also, in the McCall rematch, it was crack, not Big Len that had more to do with the win.

        Just a few thoughts.

Many of the old guys lost or drew with nobides, infact some of them lost to nobodies on mulitple occasions.

When you fight over 100 fights, that can happen more.

look at the guys dempsey and ezzard lost too. Damn ezzard was horrible at heavyweight, he was great p4p but at heavyweight he aint nowhere near top 10.

The Flynn and Meehan losses and draws were supposedly fixed fights.

I think Dempsey's kind of overrated anyway.

                    Head to head:

Muhammad Ali - Had the speed, height, reach, chin, and smarts to beat any heavyweight.

Sonny Liston - Underrated speed, the best HW jab ever, plus crushing power aided by great technique and good speed. Great chin, and very good boxing skills. Also an accurate sharpshooter.

George Foreman - Posesses the hardest punch ever, and the most strength ever. Great jab, superb chin, underrated speed, and deceptive crowding abilities.

Mike Tyson - Fastest ever come-forward HW, great speed, power, technique, chin, skill, and underrated heart. Built like a bull and very hard to hit.

Joe Louis - Great power and skill as well. An artist in the ring throwing punches with pinpoint precision. Good boxer, with great handspeed.

Larry Holmes - Great jab, speed, chin, and a smart tactician. Good defense, along with height and reach.

Joe Frazier - Best left hook ever, great stamina, and superb heart. Never stops coming, and has a lot of power.

Jack Johnson - Best HW defense ever. Good jab and combinations. Fast hands, and good power, along with good movement, and a master tactician.

Jack Dempsey - Threw a left hook from hell. The most ferocious fighter in the history of boxing. Good hand and foot speed, along with power in both hands. Very hard to hit as well. Popularized the bob-and-weave.

Lennox Lewis - Good skills for a big man. Good jab, thunderous right, and a smart fighter.

First of all, Ezzard was a far better Light-Heavy than he was a heavyweight; but he hardly lost to "nobodies" before the ALS set in. Elmer Ray was a great fighter who was ducked by many...and that split decision was thought by many to be a "bad one", Rex Lane was a ranked contender as was Nino Valdes, even though Ezzard was past his best by that point. Walcott was a very good contender and some feel a vastly underated champion.

With Dempsey, so what if he lost a few 4 rounders in his early days....losing a 4 round decision is not the same thing as being knocked out once you win the championship..., or was stopped by a ranked contender in Jim Flynn...and that fight was supposedly fixed.

Lewis was stopped by two C+ fighters while he was supposedly the best....neither Dempsey nor Charles did that. It's one thing to lose on the way up, it's another to lose while you're "on top".
