Best pound 4 pound of all time

    Sam langford anyone else agree?
Sorry to not agree with all u sugar ray robinson fans but sam langford fought from lightwieght to heavywieght he wieghed 185pounds i been researching on this guy and he has to be without a doubt the best fighter ever.
People like to talk about sugar ray robinson but this guy was always out wieghed by his opponants.
What boxer do u know in sugar ray robinsons time and in this era that will box completely blind only seein shadows and knockin people out?
He won the mexican heavy wieght title by knocking out his opponant when he was completely blind maybe he would of lasted alot longer with better defense.
Called the "Greatest Fighter Nobody Knows," by ESPN
Langford stood only 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m) and weighed 185 lb (84 kg) in his prime
He fought jack johnson but lost and never got a rematch when he got bigger because he was only a light middle when he fought jack johnson and johnson was scared of his skill developing.
Why do people forget about this guy?

Sam was great, and no doubt the greatest fight NEVER to win a title. But greatest ever p4p? I think that's stretching things a bit.

Tha massive amount of losses and inconsistency(noone really knew which fights were thrown or real, etc as he was involved with the mob) keep him away from the top spot.

He ranks #5 all time for me.

He only had to throw fights for a bit of money from white boxers and if he hadthe world title like jack johnson he wudnet of needed to throw so many thats where most of his losses came from hes very under rated.
He fought blind or about 20+ more fights before retiring because he needed the money shows his great and he had to go mexico and knockout this mexican champ for the mexican title hes a true warrior in my eyes.
I rate him perhaps 3rd or even 2nd but he could possible be the number 1 p4p of all time due to his amount of fights and knockouts and his nice skills hehe.
To be honest if he had beat jack johnson first time he wudnet of lost so many fights but he was only a light middle when he fought johnson when he grew more johnson became scared of his power.

A true great and a legend but not sure about the greatest ever p4p but that's only my opinion. But he should never be forgotten.

But he is his power, speed carried him from lightwieght to heavyweight he was always out wieghed by his opponants by 30lbs but stil knocked them out cold he knocked alot of future hofers in that area and future champions.
But never had a title cause people was afraid of him and by the way the most he ever wieghed fighting was 185lbs and he was only 5ft7 smaller then mike tyson and was knocking out 6ft heavywieghts that outwieghed him p4p in my book.
Beating hofers/future champs in all divisions p4p all the way possibley number 1 spot and knocking out a mexican heavywieght for the mexican heavy title while completely blind only seeein shadows number 1 heart of all time in my book.

Jack Dempsey once stated that their was only one man that he feared, and that one man was Sam Langford.

That's correct hhascup! Dempsey drew the colour line saying he would pay no attention to negro challengers and even admitted had he faced Sam he would have probably knocked him out! Langford couldn't get a title shot that's how feared the man was, a murderous puncher who was short with broad shoulders and long arms that gave him huge punching power. However Harry 'The Human Windmill' Greb gets the nod over Ray Robinson as greatest P4P ever. Look at the man's record, 300+ bouts with only 8 losses with 5 of those coming after he lost sight in one eye. He whipped all the top fighters from middleweight to heavyweight. The one thing Greb lacked was KO power.

** Dempsey didn't draw the color line. He fought black fighters coming up and employed many black sparring partners. He also signed to meet the top black challenger of the era, Harry Wills, but the fight fell through because of state politics and lack of financing. Dempsey paid a heavy price when that fight fell through because he had left his manager and promoter just to make that fight.

Langford was half blind and on the downhill when Dempsey won his title. Dempsey was very generous in talking of Sam and other fighters.

Sam is the greatest fighter ever by a large margin, but he was not the best p4p fighter because he could be outboxed and beat here and there throughout his career. Willie Pep, Robinson, and Greb are the top p4p fighters because they had large numbers of fights, were near unbeatable until the end of their careers, and fought most everyone near their class. Big distinction between the greatest and the best p4p fighter although Sam is also a very good p4p fighter, just not the top of the class.
