    Ron Lyle

Yor thoughts on lyle as a fighter and his career?

Poor Lyle got the shaft in the Ali fight. Ref was clearly in the pocket for stopping that.

He hit pretty damn hard, had good fundamentals, but was ultimately unspectacular.

How is that such a bad stoppage?

The man was wobbly but clearly not in danger of being seriously hurt by soft punching Ali. Plus it was the only time he got hurt in the fight. Man went life and death with George Foreman and gets stopped without a cut against Ali? Man would have been fine in the next round.

The foreman fight hadn't even happened yet,so the ref could hardly make a quick comparison.I don't recall Lyle in such a submissive state against foreman either.

Regardless of Ali's lack of punching power, the vast majority of those blows were clean. The last punch in particular whipped his head right back and he didn't show the body language of someone who looked fine to continue.

A premature stoppage would have been the ref jumping in the moment Lyle was hurt.

Lyle took a beating mainly because he was tired. His legs were actually fine at the time of the stoppage. Lyle complained to the ref about the stoppage immediately after it ended.

But my memory was a little hazy, didn't recall Lyle not answering so many punches. That's the golden rule, if he punches back don't stop it...he didn't punch back. Didn't cover up that well either. Still, Ali wasn't stopping **** that night. He needed the refs help, as he did with most of his stoppages.

How often does a fighter not complain when he is stopped on his feet?
