he punched hard enough to stop Frazier, Liston, Patterson, Lyle, Ellis, Cooper, Quarry, Folley, Cleve Williams, London, Mildenburger, Blue Lewis, Wepner....soft punching - Never!
How he stopped them is relevant. The vast majority got stopped because they were tired and/or because of an accumulation of punishment. Or the stoppage was just plain bad. Or they quit. Or they got cut.

Muhammad Ali certainly punched harder than:

      Larry Holmes
      Vitali Klitschko

Can't agree with you there *****, I agree that Lyle was tired more than hurt but he was reeling around the ring and taking a lot of unanswered blows. He was unlucky as he was ahead in the fight but the stoppage was justified.

Muhammad Ali had a good right hand.

And it was that good right hand that hurt Lyle badly before Ali even later followed up with about 20 unanswered punches.

Muhammad Ali said before the fight he was going to use "the mirage" and the "rope a dope" against Lyle. The mirage was simply using the rope a dope in mid ring.Lyle didn't go for either of them, and Ali was simply giving away rounds not throwing any punches. It wasn't like Lyle was beating a well conditioned Muhammad Ali fighting on his toes.

After the 10th round Ali told Angelo Dundee he was going to stop Lyle in the next round.Ali looked like a completely different fighter, and stopped Lyle like he said he was going to.

Larry hit a bit harder. Vitali hits a lot harder.

If I had a 100 dollars for every time Ali predicted a KO in a round incorrectly, I'd be a millionaire.

Early in his carreer you would be broke. He was like 10 for 10 until the Doug Jones fight. But the very next fight he was on the button again coming off the canvas the stop Henry Cooper in the 5th round.

Sonny Liston quitting in his corner after the 6th round can not be Ali's fault of his 8th round prediction.

Yes,after his 3 1/2 year lay-off his predictions were not very accurate. But do you know any other fighters with more accurate predictions?

It was one left hook that took bonevena out of the fight. Not an acculmulation.Ali stopped enough people to prove he wasn't fearther fisted. I'm not saying Ali was the hardest puncher, but the fact that he hurt Lyle with that right hand refutes the claim that he couldn't punch.

I never said he was feather fisted. But he's still a light puncher. Had to knock Bonavena down 3 times in the 15th round to force a stoppage. If the ref didn't step in, the tired, broken down Bonavena would have got up and continued yet again.

Would have continued to get knocked down.He would have got seriously hurt, maybe even fatal if the 3 knock down rule wasn't in effect.

That was a nasty left hook that knocked Oscar down the first time.He was hurt badly, and it ended up the only time he was stopped in his ENTIRE carreer.

It wasn't that bad, and the fact that no one else could stop him clearly signified he could take it and finish the fight. Man was more worn out than hurt. That's what Ali did. He wore people out. If he wasn't a light puncher he'd have early KOs, where are they? Nearly all the credible guys he did beat in early rounds were either controversial (Liston) or on cuts (Quarry). The London fight was unexpected. Williams and Moore were shot, one literally.

Don't bother counting me the bums he KOed in 1, 2, 3, or 4 early in his career.
