"Involved" Yes, that is very true, both Jim Farley and Jose Sulaiman were both very involved. "Involved isn't necessarily a good thing.
Anyway . . . Tammany Hall guru Jimmy Walker created the "Walker Law" -- from that law Tammany Hall created and funded the NYSAC -- Tammany Hall then appointed (and owned) the commissioners -- and now wait for it . . . Tammany Hall politicians owned a piece of Harry Wills contract.
Put it all together and you are damn right Jim Farely was involved, too involved, just like Jose Sulaiman.
To quote anyone from the 1920s NYSAC regarding Dempsey, is like quoting Bob Arum about a fighter Don King has under contract. Would one even bother?
The NYSAC was out to get Dempsey because Tammany wanted the Wills fight (MONEY) and Kearns and Rickard weren't cooperating.

So what you mean is that he was involved in the sense that he wanted Harry Wills to get a title shot...?
Ok. What am I missing then? A commissioner wanted the fight to get made. Sounds good to me. He SHOULD have wanted the fight to get made. Maybe for a plethora of reasons as you mention, but still.
His opinion should be taken into account. Why not? It's not the crux of any argument. The facts in the matter speak for themselves really.

MY God T it was one of the most political events ever in the history of prize fighting. (Only JJ vs. JJJ was more controversial.)
Then when one of the chief political whores "involved" announces it wasn't political you post it as though it is a truth!
Yes we should take his words into account, it helps show that the the whole damn thing WAS political.
He is a great source to read and study just as Don King and Bob Arum are great sources to read and study but would you base your conclusion/decision on what they say? Of course not. Think the same way about anything the NYSAC says about boxing! They were just the WBC of their day, nothing more.

Yo momma will learn much of the viciousness of this era that bled over to boxing, but yo momma gonna have to dig to uncover the Crown ***els, so give her plenty of breaks!

I didn't post anything as though it is truth. I posted his opinion. I'm pretty sure he wasn't worried about whether history would show Dempsey ducking Wills. He just wanted the fight to be made. He's speaking at a time when this fight STILL could have been made. You yourself said he wanted to make the fight. Again, I don't see the issue. HE IS PUSHING FOR THE FIGHT.

Basically, I feel like you are posting as if to say this commissioner's agenda is to blame Dempsey. I believe his agenda was to get this fight made.Last edited by travestyny; 07-08-2020, 12:30 PM.

Ok. Here is what it says.
that in March of 1920 Frazee made a bid to sponsor a fight between Jack Dempsey and black champion Harry Wills for $350,000,
What is the point, dumbo?
I don't know where you live, but I'm sure it's past your bedtime. Tell your great grand daughter to come collect you.

Again, I am not basing anything on what he says. You already know that the crux of my argument in this matter is far more damning than anything he could say. You're blowing it out of proportion that I posted a NY commissioner's opinion that the fight could be made. Is it really that serious?
Basically, I feel like you are posting as if to say this commissioner's agenda is to blame Dempsey. I believe his agenda was to get this fight made.
Yes I do believe there is an agenda out there that tries to blame Dempsey for the fight not being made, (I'm not saying that was your intention.) and that the NYSAC (Tammany Hall) was the biggest pusher of that agenda.
Anything the NYSAC says should be given the same level of validity as if it came from the WBC. Which is not much.
It was all very political, and Dempsey was almost as much a pawn as was Wills.
