Who was faster Tyson or Ali?

I guess my explanation was misunderstood by the "fanboys" again!

Point being a 5'10" 70" reach combo puncher who basicly used hooks (right angled arm form) not full extentioned punches will appear faster because the travel distance is much shorter. Also when Mike worked speed (flash) he was NOT throwing hard shots. Flash was to figure out what punches within the combos would work and then load up on them.
Ali at 6'3-4" with an 80" length used full extention shots to keep the distance in his favor while using lateral movement. There has NEVER been an overall faster heavyweight than Ali and that includes the current times.

So the facts that their size differences were extreme and the length of the extention of their arms was also extreme Ali is the faster handed boxer.
I understand this is difficult for some boys here to understand but try to realize that the "math" is against you. Plus as I've said before you know.....

Amazing speed?lol..wheres the speed?...surly you cannot really think those flopping long distance punches were faster.The only guy he looked decent against with the speed was Williams who was not even medically cleared for that fight and never should have allowed to fight being impaired. What the clip doesn't show being its fan made is all the punches Ali took that were edited out with the other fighters. Ali of 64 was comparable to Tyson but again im going with Tyson here based on what ive already posted.and the liston punch is nothing more than him leaning backward while Liston runs into it,a fast punch but again proves nothing than we already know of alis counter punching abilities with slower punchers,we do know Tyson threw 5 punches in one second which has ali beat.

It's a well known fact that Ali's, Louis's and other old time footage were purposely sped up to make it look quicker.

They KNEW back then their sport was a sorry state of affairs and had to do something to try make it watchable.

These are the guys he is directly comparable too. IT should not even be of interest if Ali is faster than Lucas Browne because they have nothing in common except for the NAME HW.

Well i'll give Ali his due, i mean you can only fit so much in under a second...Tyson/Ali/Wlad/Haye/Patterson/Holyfield/Holmes/Louis etc...all had certain punches that had great speed also take into accounrt some wore smaller gloves which despite what some deny effect speed...but as far as consistency and landing first on target...its clearly Tyson. Ali however has to be 205/210 to be on par here..speeds a tricky thing were talking fraction of seconds here but sometimes its so clear I cant see how you go against Tyson here.


P4P ...its certainly Tyson and Wlad here. And yes ali has looked slow compared to Tyson in all of his fights. Once in awhile you get a shock when ali actually throws a legit blind speed combo not fan made,i simply don't know what ppl are watching.


Im not sure vid quality was sped up,however it had less frames per second which will skip images ,hence speed things up...since the advent of advanced picture/hi def and so forth the time frame has actually slowed because its more real time like,meaning theres really no skip in pixel picture or delay,even on videos the frame rate is better so it doesn't have the speed up effect. this is more noticeable in the black and white era. the whole argument of todays pivcture makes it look faster is a myth,its just clearer.

Hand down it's Tyson if we are talking actual punches. Ali spent most of his time with cute points shots not trying to do damage. Tyson threw his hard stuff as fast as Ali threw the light stuff. Ali had faster feet but again, more so in a flash and show sense not in a fighting necessity.

As for old film, they normally had to SLOW it down to see everything because there wasn't enough frame rate to catch the speed. Perfect example is Bruce Lee. His fight footage is slowed down so it looks more fluid and you can see it. It's not that the old stuff is actually sped up or slowed down in matches though, it's just the missing frames that make it look like they are moving in quick bursts.

Yes, I am not denying Muhammad Ali was fast.

In fact I would judge he was the fastest 210lber upto the 1970's (until the flowering of Larry Holmes). Anybody quicker previously, was also much lighter!

But this alone makes it meaningless to compare his speed to a superheavyweights speed. OF COURSE Ali is going to be faster than that!

Against Tyson it's straight forward clear from video evidence that Ali is much slower of hand and body, as well as far less precise, technical and reactive than Tyson.

Take Muhammad Ali, make him 6'9" and 260lbs, paint him white and you have Tyson Fury!
