In my experience the best way to eliminate the jab is to smother it, if he is too fast and keeps hitting you with it get in as close as you can in front of his jab hand and try to eliminate it.
And also the best defense for me i have found is alot of head movement and constantly moving around the ring, as soon as your movements get predictable its makes the fight alot easier for the other guy.

The best way to avoid a jab is use more lateral movement. Head movement would enhance your chance to dodge some, but moving from side to side enables you to counter the jabs, even if you get hit with one or two. Whereas, head movement can leave some in bad positions, especially if it's something they are just trying to learn.
Also, time the jab, feint to throw his timing off. Move in and out a bit, and when he swings and misses, counter. Against the type of fighters who love to jab, you have to be willing to counter. It's risky, but keep your hands up and counter. Once you've done that, start jabbing yourself, to enforce your will.

stay moving at all times, move side to side, bob your head etc
i find a standard catch his left jab in your right glove is very easy and effective also

As you are a beginner, i would advice you try and keep your gloves up near your face but crouch slightly so u do not take alot of body punches when sparring especially if you are taller. When keeping your guard up try and use the inside curve of your gloves as a binocular looking through them but keeping them tight. This will allow u to block any jabs on the glove and you wont get hit in the face. Start to slip jabs as well and counter. The binocular method has helped me over the past few weeks training.

If you are moving your head but continue to be easily hit by the jab, then it is obvious that you have not learned elementary defense. Before you had been allowed to spar you should have been put through a series of defensive drills. It is the drills that teach you the right moves, and once the right moves become instinctive then you will not be easy to hit. You need to stop sparring and go back to the fundamentals.
