No, sparring is to work on techniques and skill(Such as you mentioned, defense, jab, ect. Not power).

I agree, a sparring session is for improvement, not to show off. It's cool to be in a war once in a while at the gym, but seriously, sparring is where you should be most concentrated and really focus on trying the stuff off that you've learned on the mitts, bag and training sessions.

It must be some weak ass guys, who's 30 lbs heavier, and gets beaten by you, no offense but no one 30 lbs ligther then me, hits harder.

I'm not arguing with what you're getting at but you don't have to hit harder to hurt someone bigger, you just need to hit hard enough to hurt them.

..look at Tyson, he didnt hit any harder than the much bigger mofos he fought, but he sure hit hard enough to knock those ****ers out

It's a bad thing to trade with guys 30 lbs heavier then you, especially when not a heavy weight. But at the moment we're talking amateur level, and I guess, not very experienced. There is no point in hurting them. You should be faster, and when they go forward move 45/90 degree and hit them from the side, change angle's and you'll annoy him more then you know Theres a world of things to do.

Tyson had speed, movement and forward going defense. That made him dangerous, and yeah, he had alot of power also.

But at times I think one should go hard in sparring like you would in a real fight. I always do this by the universal way by talking about what the power we're going to use is and how many rounds and such. Works well.

If your a lot better, you should hold back. Personally I'll work on footwork and trying to beat them to angles. And I'll work on defensive stuff.

If the guy is decent and hes bringing the heat, sometimes you need to land something with power. But if the guy clearly is no threat than IMO your in the wrong to throw with power.

If the guy is just flat out out of control meat head type, feel free to drive something into their sternum, they'll get the idea.

Ya this is it basically. Sparring guys heavier then you can be a lot of fun if you view it properly. That being knowing you got the speed and agility on your side. Use the ring, let em chase ya a bit, counter and move, control the ring. You tend to get your nervous inexperienced guys who are heavier trying to take yer head off and occasionally need to be set right...but mostly its a good exchange, the difference in speed and mobility vs strength for learning.

Now if the the guy is equally as good as you and wants to exchange hard always you'd be kinda dumb to want to be in that deal regularly. 30lbs lbs diff adds up quickly.
