    holy **** you mean to say that weigh lifting has the same benifits as actually boxing but with boxing your actually working the exact muscles you need instead of extra pointless ones?

    really speed? maybe acceleration, but there is no way that i am ever goign to punch faster with a weight in my hand then with out one in my hand. a car with 1 hp and 400 ft lb of torque is still only going to be able to get up to like 5 mph. a car with 1 hp and 800 ft lb of torque....still only hitting 5 mph.

    when you do a dead lift for your calves? your going to do a certain amount with a certain weight to get a certain result...for your calves while every other muscle that you use while your doing dead lifts are going to be getting a complely diffrent result. like the weight required to work your calves might damage your lower back so you work your lower back way beond where it needs to be just so you can handel a weight that can proerly work your calves. or you might be dead lifting for your core which might be stronger then or not as strong as your calves resulting in a diffrent out come for your calves then for your core. mixing every thing up.

    where as if you spend say an hour on the heavy bag every single muscle that you work is going to be worked exatcally how it should be for doing exactally what your training for. as well the muscle to mind link that one might get whil lifting that allows you to better flex a muscle is being worked even better in the proper way/order when your throwing punches

    If you properly train and cycle your workout recovery should not be a problem
    of course not, assuming you cut out half of your boxing routine to make room for the weights, by the way cutting out half your boxing rountine so that you can lift weights for an hour a day 3 times a week is a ****** idea.

      I can't believe that boxing is still the most undeveloped sport...OMG tenis players do weightlifting and you people say boxers shouldn't?!Don't forget we are fighting, we need that extra strength.Ruby Robert, have u ever heard of training plan?If u have a great plan you have stamina to do everything.

        its a plan, you should have enough stamina to do everything on your plan.

        but is the 30 mins you spend doin leg presses dead lifts and squats really more valuable then the hour of jogging and sprinting? or the 30 mins on the shoulder press, bench press and rowing machine more valuable then the hour shadow boxing and working the bag?

          Ruby, you aren't gonna start doing the most hardest weightlifting exercisess at once.You are gonna start slowly build your strenght and endurance...no one sad that people should ignore boxing workout because of weight training.I am now on break before college and I train twice a day.In morning weight training that was deviced by profesor of faculty of sport and in the evening I do boxing drills.It isn't hard if you have will and dedication.Only lazy people make excuses.

              and how much do you jog each week or day?

              or because your weight lifting do you not have to jog any more?

                Ruby Robert, do you even train or you are trying talk **** about something you know nothing about?

                I train 6 days a week. I have been boxing since i was 14-15 and i can tell you first hand that while calisthenics are good there comes a point where you can't progress any farther.

                Thats where weight lifting and plyometrics come in, training methods have evolved and to be a good fighter you need more than technique.

                I only started incorporating weights into my training in my early 20's because i was stuck with an old grumpy trainer that was stuck in the past just like you are.

                Man do i wish i could have started the stuff i'm going today before, i'm 26 and i'm stronger, faster and better than i have ever been.

                  Hmm how bout this?

                  everyones body is different. If you box and notice weights help you, what does that tell you? If you box and you notice weights slow you up or make it harder to snap your punches, what does that tell you?

                  If you want to box you have to learn how to feel your body and fine-tune it for the sport. Just get a good trainer and do what he says

                    I only train 5 days a week and have been boxing for a year and a half.

                    sit ups, pull ups, 30 mins of bag work shadow boxing - then review, 9 mile bike ride 3 mile jog 9 mile bike ride back 30 mins of shadow boxing and bag work then review, sit ups, pull ups, 30 mins of digging a stump out from the center with a pick axe then about 400 meters in the pool.

                    started exercising weight lifting and all that jazz about 7 years ago stopped after 3 months of starting boxing after about 3 months with out i started up again and noticed a drasitc drop in how much i was able to train, how fast i was, and how much stamina i had and stopped after about 2 weeks of trying it out with out improvements. ive since gone from 45 min - an hour at the gym + 3 rounds on a bag and a 12 mile bike ride to the rountine above in just the past year.

                    im 26 as well and id say im faster stronger and better then i have ever been, i dont think its the weights im pretty sure most people hit their prime around 24-28.
