In truth tho Lewis probably just thought im not gonna look good against Byrd, swere em!
Thats true.. Emmanuel Stewart told Lewis that Byrd could make him look very bad and that it could harm Lewis standing..so they avoided him, yet think if we only had one governing body with only the one belt

I think it was a combination of Lewis not wanting the fight and HBO showing no interest in the fight. In a way it shows that all fighters who complain about be treated unfairly tend to change a lot when they become the man at the top.

Yeah Manny said that, he also said that if Lewis couldnt motivate himself to fight Byrd he was better of bypassing the fight

I think that is the way things will end up going. Just imagine having 4 belts and forking out 400K to defend them

Fighters will always want titles tho, to be known as champion (of something, Anything!) and told the belts - WBC ect that guys like Louis and Ali held

Sanctioning fees are a joke, didnt Barrera dump his belt and say who needs it im the man everyone in the division knows it and i dont wanna pay these fees no more?

Besides the fighter makes the belt not the other way about

The only way the fighters will stop caring about those alphabet titles is if the TV networks stop caring. Generally the major networks always want a "world title" as part of their billing for the show. And if it opens up doors or brings more money to the table, it's a big factor.

The dates do not match up for you to make this ridiculous claim.

Lennox fought Botha in the year 2000 on 3 months rest as a keep busy fight in the UK. At that time Byrd wasnt even allowed exhibitions because he was bonded to what he called a "slave contract" with the Klitschkos. The fight could not happen that year!

In 2001, Byrd is coming off an embarrassing loss to Wladimir. If Lennox fought Byrd then, hed be ruthlessly criticized, win, lose or draw.

In 2002, Lennox is on the brink of a much deserved superfight with Tyson. Byrds 4 year wait, is nothing compared to the 20 years Lennox had to wait for Mike Tyson. Highest grossing PPV ever for a Heavyweight bout.

2003 and beyond, Lennox had already emotionally retired and was only sticking around for a Roy Jones or Tyson showdown.

2004 Lennox is physically retired and Byrd barely survives a draw against Golota. Just wasnt meant to be.

what a made up load of bull....

Who said Lewis had to fight Botha?
Why was Botha given a title fight instead of Ruiz & Byrd?
Those PPV numbers from Lewis v Tyson was solely down to the "Tyson Factor"... Lewis had pathetic PPV numbers with many of his fights being snoozers..

Lewis was dragging out his title reign as long as possible by telling the boxing world he would give Vitali a rematch, yet he dragged it out unto he announced his retirement only days before he was getting stripped of his final title.. Lewis had won the undisputed title (IBF, WBC, WBA) in November 1999 and never defended against a single No1 contender with him getting stripped of those belts.

                      .

Lewis had the greatest drawing power of a non-American Heavyweight. People paid to see him lose. Why else would 450,000 Americans buy a fight with a virtually unknown Michal Grant on the card?

Lennox holds the record for the most expensive live gate for a HW bout: 17 million with Holyfield. and he holds the Heavyweight PPV record with 2 million buys against Tyson.
